20 of the Best Thank You Notes to Godparents

20 of the Best Thank You Notes to Godparents

It’s not often that we say thank you to godparents. Yet, in the grand scheme of things, they deserve just as much appreciation as our birth parents.

The best godparents remember birthdays, and they keep asking about us (and our children) even when we become adults. They are, in every way, our shadow parents.

How do you say thank you to godparents to make them feel really special? We have a few ideas.

Say thank you to godparents: to your godparents when your parents are no longer alive

01Dear Mrs. Barr,

These past few years, especially since Mom and Dad died, have been a revelation of sorts. So many things and people have changed so suddenly, but you haven’t.

You continue to be very kind to me. You continue to be very generous with your time and advice. I know you are my godmother, but that’s no guarantee for love. Thank you very much for loving me.

02Dear Mr. and Mrs. Lin, I haven’t always said this out loud, but I really appreciate your love and affection for me all these years.

You have always been by my side, throughout my whole life, like guardian angels. You have been there for me through the easier times when everything was ok and later when things weren’t so good.

I want you to know that I appreciate all the love you’ve shown me, and I love you very much!

03Dear Mr. and Mrs. Zellweger, When I look back now, I can see why my Mom and Dad chose you to look after me. You are such wonderful people and natural substitutes for them.

I have always wondered about what I could do to thank you, and I can’t find anything worthy. All I can say is thank you, and I mean it from the bottom of my heart.

04Dear Aunt Rosie and Uncle Tim, I just want to say thank you for being my godparents. I have always felt so proud of having such respectable folks like you in my life.

Most of all, I think you’re the best godparents a guy like me could ask for. I am sure Mom and Dad would have been very proud of you too. Thank you so much.

05Dear Mrs. Brand, I hope you are doing fine. I was just thinking about you the other day, and it occurred to me that there have only been a few constants in my life. Things come and go. Some people leave, and some people die.

One constant in my life stood out, and that’s you, Mrs. Brand. You have been my lovely godmother since day one, and here you are after hundreds of life changes. Thank you so much for yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

06There aren’t many things that I am proud of in my life. Among the few that I really treasure, you two, Mr. and Mrs. Obi, have taken the top spot on the list.

Since you are the best godparents someone could get, I want to thank you. You both are the kindest, most loving humans on this planet.

You’ve always cared so deeply for me, and I love you too. I want to thank you both so much. Also, Mom and Dad say hi.

07Dr. Iannucci, I know this note will catch you by surprise because I don’t always mention how I feel about you. I just want to say thank you for everything you’ve done for me.

I know it’s a lot of subtle things over the years, but I am very grateful. I am sure that Dad tells you this all the time, but you make a terrific godfather.

08To Mr. Holbrook, my favorite godparent forever,

I have always wanted to express my appreciation for you, but I don’t always know how to find the right words when I need them the most.

In all honesty, however, having Mom, Dad, and you in my life continues to make me feel like the luckiest son (and godson) in the world. Thank you for that feeling every day.

09Mr. Godfrey, I’ve never said this before, but I think you’re the best godparent ever. You still show up when I least expect you to be present, for example at my 36th birthday party! You still ask about my personal life.

You still suggest tips on how I could live better. I have marvelous parents, but you are the best godfather I could ever want.

I hope you know that I appreciate all of your gestures of love, and I love you too. Thank you.

10Some people are just special human beings. Uncle Herbert, I will never forget the phone calls on my birthday or those random, sudden visits to my city in the summer.

I cannot forget that big box of flowers that I got on the day I was promoted. I won’t ever forget the love and advice that you have given me on a regular basis.

I think you’re a special human being. They probably never tell you, but Mom and Dad think you’re a terrific godfather too. That’s the one thing we agree on.

Say thank you to godparents: to your friends who agreed to be your child’s godparents

11Hey Tina and Brad, thank you for agreeing to be my boy’s godparents.

I know how special and important a task it is. I am particularly grateful that you two, my best friends in the whole world, agreed to handle it with me. I am sure that Tim is in safe hands whenever he is with you.

12To Peter and Jen:

Thank you guys for becoming Tim’s godparents. If I’ve never mentioned it before, there is no other couple that I’d rather trust my baby with than you two. You both are people who I know best and love dearly.

I acknowledge that it’s no easy task to be godparents. I am forever thankful to you both. God bless you.

13Hey guys,

I saw the acceptance message. Thank you; it means the world to Grace and I that you have accepted to be godparents to our little Timmy.

I have always wanted only the best individuals to be my children’s godparents. I am very honored that you guys accepted the challenge. If you ever need us to return the favor, we are right here for you and ready to go.

14Hey Dora,

Thank you so much for becoming Jenney’s godmother. I was so hoping that you would say ‘yes’ because you were always the only option for me.

I probably say this a lot, but I really want the best people around Jenny as she grows up. I believe it’s true that it takes a village to raise a child.

Thank you, Dora. You are the kind of woman to whom I want my daughter to look as she matures.

15Dear Laura,

17Dear Alice and Jon,

Thank you for accepting to be my kid’s godparents. I couldn’t think of anyone else when I was considering who could become my daughter’s godparents.

I’ve known you two for a long time, and I’ve seen you both work together as parents to your own children; When I saw this, I knew that there could be no better option.

I am thrilled that my good friends get to look over my kid as his godparents. Thank you.

18Lin and Jan, Thank you so much for accepting my Lindy as your godchild. James already thinks of you guys as the coolest parents on the block, and I agree.

19Hey Tony and Ann, This is such wonderful news! I have to admit I was worried that you wouldn’t agree to being godparents because of your busy schedules. Thank you for taking the leap.

It gives me hope and comfort knowing that two kind, good, and capable friends of mine will be there for my baby when or if I am no longer available. Thank you guys so much. God bless you.

20Hey James, Thanks for taking on the role of godfather to my Bill. I always hoped that you would accept the role; it means the world to Gracie and I.

My godfather was a really kind, loving guy, and he was way more charming than my real father.

I am sure that I learned more from him than all of my male birth relatives combined. Not to draw comparisons or anything, but I see a lot of him in you. I am sure that my boy will be in good hands from now on.
